Applications of Simulation

14-07-2018

Need to see to believe? No problem. Events simulation is an imitation of a real system in a computer environment.

It's used to support decision making in almost all kinds of logistics and there're a lot of reasons to use it, like help in understanding the system behavior or exploit different scenarios without real effects.

The Slefty performs discreet simulations meaning that it's better applied to industries with separable and well-identified products that can be counted as units. There are a lot of industries that can fit in this, like:

  • Automotive: Simulation of assembly lines;
  • Electronics: Simulation of assembly lines;
  • Pharmaceutical: Simulation of production lines and distribution;
  • Health: Simulation of people inside hospitals and clinics;
  • Metallic and mineral products: Extraction and transformation simulation;
  • Military and Government: Simulation of people inside public buildings and material handling/ transportation;
  • Aviation: Air traffic simulation;
  • Retail: Simulation of people inside a shop;

There are many more fields where simulation can be applied. In any production line where products can be well identified, like in paper or wood industries, we can optimize and simulate.  Other industries, due to their type product, are difficult to achieve good results with simulation, like oil or gas industry.

Simulation cannot be useful if it's easier to do experiences (trial and error) in reality than in a computer environment and if the company can solve the problems analytically. It’s also difficult to achieve good results when you have a very complex system in reality and human behavior plays a big role in it.

The simulation can introduce the random  impact in the results of a system, avoiding the static results that managers can have when they do the calculation on excel spreadsheets.

To understand, plan and manage materials, information, and people is easier to do with simulation.

If it’s possible to measure, it’s possible to manage! Talk to us to find out how.
